The members of Rock 'n Rouge:
Luella Holland studied Drama at the University of Cape Town, and graduated in 2008. Since then, she has been working as a professional actress. Her recent projects have included hosting and presenting a lifestyle TV show and several major adverts. Her theatrical experience includes the Princess in The Princess and the Pea , which toured South Africa at the end of 2008, the role of the princess in the musical Alladin and his Wonderful Lamp, and Aviva Pelham’s Broadway Magic. Luella is our resident drama queen, ensuring that there really is never a dull moment! Luella blew audiences away as Lady Windermere in Lady Windermere's Fan at the Masque theatre last year, and she is a leading lady in the new musical "Edges" which just came back from a successful tour to the Grahamstown Arts Festival.
Chenara Fenton started singing at the age of four when she sang her first solo in a pre-school play, and continued to sing throughout her childhood and school career. She played the piano in junior school, later began formal vocal training at the age of 14, and went on to achieve Grade 8 Singing under Michael Kempen. Chenara performed in the chorus of “The King and I” at the Artscape in 2006 before moving to London where she was a member of the Royal Philharmonia Chorus with whom she performed at the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall. During her stay in Europe, Chenara has also performed extensively in many cabaret venues throughout London and Paris. Chenara is the business brains of the group making sure t's are crossed and i's are dotted! Chenara is an accomplished Jazz singer, hoping to release a solo album later this year featuring songs she has written and co-written with Clive Ridgway of the Cape Town School of Songwriting. Jennifer Moss was thrust into the world of show business at the tender age of three, when she was enrolled at the Russell Leite Theatre School in Manchester, England. It wasn't long before she was chosen to be a Diddyman with Ken Dodd (the youngest ever at that stage), touring extensively throughout England. After moving to South Africa she continued her stage career performing in musicals, pantomimes and straight plays in various theatres in Cape Town. Along with acting and dancing, Jennifer discovered a love for music, and attended the Beau Soleil Music Centre for 5 years. She obtained her bachelors degree in classical music from the University of Cape Town in 2006, majoring in flute and studying voice with Marisa Marchio. Since then she has taught class music, flute, piano and recorder at various schools in Cape Town, as well as running her own private studio. In 2007, she performed in the Cape Town Gilbert and Sullivan Society's The Gondoliers, which was taken to the International Gilbert and Sullivan Society in Buxton, England. In 2008 she performed in the highly acclaimed production of My Fair Lady at the Artscape Opera House, as well as the 2009 production of HMS Pinafore - The Naughty-cal Musical. In December she played the part of Belle in A Christmas Carol - A Pantomime, for which she received 2 Cape Amateur Theatre Award nominations. Jennifer is fondly known as the Harmony Police of the group, and is infamous for her many "music nerd" moments. We still love her though! Jennifer most recently won a CATA award for her amazing performance as Lilly St Regis in Annie at the Artscape Opera House.
Julian Fernandez was born in Germany, and has been living in Cape Town since the age of 3. Following in his grandparents’ footsteps, he showed keen interest in music and studied the violin under Erika Naumann from age 6 – but it was his first role as Hero in Teddy Davies’ “A funny thing happened on the way to the forum” that gave rise to his passion for musical theatre. Since then, he has performed principle and chorus roles in numerous productions, such as Phra Alack in The King and I, the moonstruck waiter and understudy to Luiz in The Gondoliers , showcased at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton UK; and Bobby in the award- winning production of Cabaret. He has toured the country with the South African tribute show Paradise Road, formed one half of the popular My Song Your Song cabarets and was a soloist in From Bach to Beethoven in Hamburg, Germany. Recently, Julian could be seen on German TV screens as Sunnyboy in the hugely successful miniseries Secret of Whales. He studied singing under his “mentor and confidante“, Ryta Zmuro, later, Dr. Brad Liebl and currently under the renowned Hanna van Niekerk as part of his Bachelor degree at the University of Cape Town. In May last year, Julian was seen as Sister Mary Amnesia in the hysterical musical Nunsense- A-Men, at the Artscape. Julian is a German teacher, a dog lover and is currently writing and composing his second musical. Julian is the mediator or whistle- blower of the group, making sure the girls don’t scratch their eyes out. Julian has just been awarded the much-coveted roll of Mottel in Fiddler on the Roof, appearing at the Artscape Opera House later this year.
